What happens to the information you share with Gen.
What Gen handles
When you create something, Gen processes your prompt, the recent conversation, and the current artwork’s description so follow-up requests make sense. Your current landing-page conversation is held in browser memory.
Workspace conversations, prompts, text replies, and links to generated images are saved on the Gen server. They are associated with your signed-in account, or an anonymous browser cookie when you are signed out, so you can return to them.
If you create an account, Gen stores your email address, a securely hashed password, account and session identifiers, plan, and usage counts. Your password is not stored as readable text. If payments are enabled, subscription and payment-provider identifiers are also stored.
Why it is used
This information is used to create and refine artwork, sign you in, apply usage limits, prevent misuse, and operate the service. Where data protection law requires a legal basis, these purposes relate to providing the service you request, legitimate interests in operating it securely, and applicable legal obligations.
AI and other providers
Prompts, recent conversation, and art directions are sent to OpenAI to generate responses and visual references. Only submit information you are comfortable sending for AI processing. Providers may process data in countries other than your own under their applicable agreements.
When configured, an email provider delivers sign-in codes and Stripe handles checkout. Those providers receive the information needed for their role. Following a social link takes you to a separate service with its own privacy practices.
Storage and retention
Generated reference images, art descriptions, and AI replies are cached on the Gen server so repeated requests can reuse a result. This preview currently has no automatic expiry for those caches or for account and usage records; they remain until removed by the operator.
Starting a new idea clears the current landing-page conversation, but does not delete server caches or information already processed by an AI provider. Generated reference links are not private storage; avoid including sensitive information in artwork.
Starting a new workspace chat keeps your earlier chats. Deleting a chat removes its stored message history; generated image files can remain in the server cache. Database backups can retain deleted messages until the backup rotation replaces them.
Cookies
Gen uses an essential sign-in cookie that lasts up to 30 days and an anonymous usage cookie that lasts up to one year. They help keep you signed in and apply usage limits. You can remove or block them in your browser, though account features may stop working.
Gen uses Google Analytics to understand visits and how people use the site. Google Analytics may use cookies and process information about your browser, device, and pages visited. You can block analytics through your browser or a tracking blocker.
Following an affiliate referral link stores a first-party referral cookie for up to 30 days. If you create a new account, Gen associates the referral with your account to calculate commissions on eligible subscription payments. Affiliates see aggregate conversion counts and commission amounts, not your email, prompts, or payment details.
Your choices and questions
You can stop using Gen, clear your browser data, and avoid including personal details in prompts. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive your personal data, object to or restrict processing, and complain to your local data protection authority.
This policy will be updated as the service changes. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
